Teenage girl gang-raped in park

Five boys, aged between 13 and 17, have been arrested on suspicion of rape after a 15-year-old girl was attacked in a park in Bolton.

The teenager was attacked in Queen's Park close to Bolton town centre in the early hours of Thursday 24 morning, Greater Manchester Police said.
She has been examined at St Mary's sexual assault centre in Manchester and is receiving counselling.
Officers have been carrying out a forensic search of the area.
Police described the attack as "disturbing".

Iraqi bomb disposal soldiers die

Fifteen Iraqi soldiers have been killed as they transported confiscated bombs to a disposal area, officials say.

The accident happened in northern Iraq, when one bomb exploded, igniting the other weapons and bombs, killing the soldiers on the truck.
They were driving to a vacant area in Bashika, east of Mosul.
The Iraqi army frequently undertakes controlled explosions in the area to dispose of confiscated weapons away from residential areas.
Mosul is one of the few remaining Iraqi cities where there is still routine insurgent violence.
On Thursday, a soldier and three policemen were shot dead.
Nationally, violence in Iraq saw a spike in August, with the highest number of violent deaths for more than a year.
Iraqi government figures showed that 393 civilians were killed that month, along with about 60 police officers and soldiers.

Police look for man whose wife, 5 children found killed.

Florida authorities were searching Sunday for a 33-year-old man after his wife and five children were found dead in their Naples home.


The bodies of Guerline Damas, 32; Michzach, 9; Marven, 6; Maven, 5; Megan, 3; and Morgan, 11 months, were discovered Saturday, Rambosk said.
Authorities have been unable to locate Mesac Damas, who possibly left the country Friday morning and may be in Haiti, Capt. Chris Roberts of the Collier County sheriff's department said Sunday at a news conference.
"We don't see at this point any indication of an individual out in the neighborhoods committing additional crimes or homicides, but certainly we will look at every opportunity," Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said at an earlier news conference.
There had been a "handful" of domestic disturbance calls to police since 2000 involving the Damas couple, with the latest resulting in the arrest of Mesac Damas in January, Roberts said. Mesac Damas pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor battery against Guerline Damas in June, and Roberts said he does not think Mesac Damas served any jail time for the crime.
"We are still talking to people that knew the family and obviously the ultimate information we need is not so much what happened in the past but what happened when these people died," Roberts said.
The six bodies were found Saturday at about 6:30 p.m., a day after police had visited the home to check on the family, Roberts said. >>>Read more

Afghanistan blast kills at least 16

KABUL, Afghanistan - At least 16 people were killed, including international soldiers, and 55 were wounded when a car bomb rocked parts of Afghanistan's capital Thursday 17, authorities said.
At least six Italian soldiers were killed and four others were wounded in the blast, Ignazio La Russa, Italy's defense minister said.
Ten Afghan civilians were also killed, said Fareed Rayel, an Afghan Ministry of Public Health spokesman.
The blast occurred in a mostly residential area near the Supreme Court of Afghanistan in Kabul, a witness said. Ministry of Interior spokesman Zamarai Bashiri said 21 shops, seven vehicles, five motorbikes and three bicycles were damaged in the explosion.
The soldiers were traveling on Airport Road in Kabul when they were targeted by a suicide car bomber, the defense minister said.
Afghan military ambulances were taking bodies away and at least three U.S. military vehicles were seen driving toward the scene of the blast.
In a separate incident, a service member with the NATO-led forces in Afghanistan was killed in southern Afghanistan, military officials said Thursday.
The victim died Wednesday after after being struck by a roadside bomb, the International Security Assistance Force said.
"On behalf of the men and women serving with ISAF, I convey my deepest sympathies to the loved ones of this brave soldier," said Brigadier-General Eric Tremblay, ISAF spokesman. "His selfless efforts to bring hope to the population of Afghanistan will not be forgotten."
The service member's nationality and name, and other details about the incident, were not released.
